Temperature in Delhi suddenly plunges by 15 degrees Celsius as heavy rain, hailstorm batter city

Heavy rain and a hailstorm accompanied by gusty winds battered Delhi on Monday evening, bringing traffic to a standstill at several places as hail  hit car windshields and motorcyclists.

The temperature plunged by as much as 15 degree Celsius in south Delhi's Safdarjung and by 13 degree readings at Palam observatory near the airport.

"Between 4.20 pm and 5.40 pm, the temperature fell from 40 degree Celsius to 25 degree Celsius at Safdarjung," India Meteorological Department said.

Saleem Ahmed of the Press Information Bureau tweeted a video of strong winds swaying trees.

Several cars were reported to be damaged on KG Marg near Connaught place as the branches of trees came crashing down in the storm.
