Stunning video: Courageous cow fights off tiger to save calf

A stunning video posted by IFS officer and wildlife enthusiast Susanta Nanda on Twitter shows a tiger chasing a herd of cows in an open field. The big cat manages to isolate a young calf and brings it down.

However, just when the beast is about to kill the calf, the courageous mother cow charges at the tiger catching him by surprise. The tables are turned and the big cat leaves its prey and flees the spot.

The video brings out the growing possibility of human-animal conflict and the need for more planning to prevent such situations from arising.

“India now has 75% of the world’s wild tigers, numbering around 3200. It will reach its carrying capacity soon, until we are obsessed with numbers & make them pests in human dominated habitats,” Nanda wrote.
