Six Pakistan-backed terrorists arrested for grenade attack on Punjab Police Intelligence Headquarters

Punjab police have arrested six Pakistan-backed terrorists for carrying out the audacious rocket-propelled grenade attack on the headquarters of the state police’s Intelligence Wing in Mohali on Monday evening.

Addressing a press conference on Friday Punjab police DGP V K Bhawra disclosed that the key conspirator in the attack was Canada-based terrorist Lakhbir Singh Landa who was a close associate of Pakistan-based Babbar Khalsa Chief Wadhawa Singh and Harwinder Singh Rinda. The attack had the backing of Pakistan’s notorious ISI. Landa is a gangster from the Tarn Taran district who migrated to Canada in 2017.

The police have arrested Jagdeep Singh Kang, Kanwar Bath, Baljit Kaur, Anantdeep Singh Sonu, Baljinder Singh Rambo, and Nishan Singh, all of them hail from the adjoining border districts of Tarn Taran and Amritsar. Two of the attackers who had come from outside are yet to be arrested.

Two activists of Lashkar-e-Taiba, Mohammad Nasim Alam, and Mohammad Sharaf Raj, too, have been brought for interrogation from Noida in connection with the case.

The DGP said the grenade was sent to India from Pakistan with the help of a drone. It was of Russian make. An AK 47 was also made available to another accused Charat Singh who is at large.

He explained that the attack was executed in the evening when all officers in the headquarters had left. The aim was to demoralise the police and send a signal that anti-India forces were still active.

In an audacious attack on Monday, a rocket-propelled grenade was fired at the third floor of the highly-guarded building in Mohali on the outskirts of Chandigarh at 7.45 pm after which the state was put on high alert.

A case under the relevant sections of the Indian Penal Code, the Unlawful Activities (Prevention) Act (UAPA), and the Explosives Act was lodged at Mohali's Sohana police station after the incident.
