A housing society with over 700 flats in Gurgaon, constructed by Government -owned NBCC (India) Ltd, will be demolished as it has been declared unsafe for living by a team of IIT Delhi.</p>

Confirming &quot;structural and construction lapses&quot;, Deputy Commissioner of Gurugram Nishant Yadav on Wednesday announced that residents of Sector 37 D-based NBCC Green View society have been asked to vacate by March 1, following a meeting with 140 flat owners and NBCC (India) Ltd officials.</p>

Holding the builder&rsquo;s National Buildings Construction Corporation Limited and its contractors responsible for the plight of homemakers, the administration announced that anybody who wants to quit the society will be given refund along with one month&#39;s interest.</p>

Yadav said the Government of India enterprise will provide alternative&nbsp;&nbsp; accommodation to the residents. It will also provide rent to those willing to shift to similar flats of their choice, he said.</p>

The decision to demolish the society comes close on the heels of some flats in a private housing complex named Chintels Paradiso in Gurugram&#39;s Sector 109 collapsed in which two residents died and several others were injured.</p>

NBCC (India) chairman and managing director PK Gupta said, &quot;It is shocking as to how a society of 700-800 flats could deteriorate in four to five years. The IIT Delhi team which surveyed the building said that high chloride levels in water that lead to corrosion. After the first inspection, we wanted to get it repaired, but there was a delay first because of the COVID-19 pandemic and then rains that led to waterlogging.&rdquo;</p>
