Saffron sun continues to shine in Assembly elections

<strong>Riding roughshod over the Opposition and so-called "anti-incumbency", the BJP seemed to be dancing its way to victory in Uttar Pradesh and is set to retain Uttarakhand and Manipur. A neck-and neck race is on between Congress and BJP in Goa. </strong></p>

On the other hand, Arvind Kejriwal led Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) is on the verge of creating political history by capturing Punjab and becoming the fourth political outfit besides BJP, Congress and Left to rule more than one state.  </p>

As for Congress, its cup of woes continues to overflow. Congress not only failed to retain Punjab but seemed to be repeating its pathetic performance in Uttar Pradesh all over again. As far as the latest trends, Congress is sinking below its 7-seat tally of 2017 even after its leader, Priyanka Gandhi held over 200 rallies across the state. Some feel that it is time for the Gandhis to release the party from their clutches. </p>

Regardless of the highly charged and bitter campaign by the Opposition, the UP electorates still seemed to be reeling under the spell of Narendra Modi and Yogi Adityanath. However, Akhilesh Yadav led Samajwadi Party seemed to be making major gains and leading in more than110 seats as counting continues. The BJP leading in over 250 seats continues to pull ahead with great speed.  </p>

Stunning the political pundits, the trends indicate that the BJP was performing above expectations in western UP, the epicentre of the anti-farm law protests in the state. The SP-RLD alliance, being viewed as a formidable Jat-Muslim combination was not being able to contain the charge of the saffron juggernaut. The saffron hue also seemed to be spreading rapidly in central and eastern UP. </p>

It was being felt that in western UP, while the SP votes were transferred to SP, it did not work another way round. </p>

In Uttarakhand, where the BJP was apparently hit by a "huge anti-incumbency" wave is inching towards the finishing line. Congress is lagging behind by at least 20 seats. A seesaw battle continues between BJP and Congress in Goa. The Trinamul Congress making its debut in the seaside state is leading in at least five seats as counting continues. </p>
