Rs 80 crore worth heroin seized at Mumbai airport from Kerala smuggler

The Directorate of Revenue Intelligence (DRI) has arrested a drug smuggler at Mumbai International Airport and recovered 16 kg of high-quality heroin drugs worth Rs 80 crore from him.

The accused has been identified as Binu John, a resident of Kerala.

Acting on a tip-off, the DRI searched John’s baggage as soon as he reached the airport and found the contraband was found concealed in a fake cavity of his trolley bag, the investigative agency said on Wednesday.

John told the DRI that a foreign national had given him USD 1000 as commission to take him to India, the accused also disclosed the names of other associates.

The DRI has registered a case under the NDPS Act and is now investigating the other associates involved in the racket.
