A rare video showing famous Polish climber Adam Bielecki rescuing Indian mountaineer Anurag Maloo from a deep crevasse on Mount Annapurna (8091 m) in a dare-devil mission has surfaced on Twitter.
Bielecki exhibited extraordinary courage and skill, while putting his own life at grave risk, to haul Maloo up 200 metres from the crevasse three days after the Indian mountaineer fell into it.
The 34-year-old Anurag Maloo, was then flown to a hospital in Kathmandu in critical condition, according to Thaneshwar Guragain, an official at the Seven Summit Treks hiking company.
The successful high-altitude rescue operation will go down in mountaineering history as a rare accomplishment.
Annapurna is considered one of the most dangerous mountains to climb because of its unpredictable climate. Annapurna remains cold and covered with snow throughout the year and is swept with high velocity winds and snowfall across seasons making the going very tough for climbers.
