Rajnath inaugurates 44 bridges in border areas

<p style="font-weight: 400;">Defence Minister Rajnath Singh today dedicated 44 major bridges which connected to the “sensitive areas close to western, northern and North Eastern borders.”</p>
<p style="font-weight: 400;">These bridges are spread over seven states and Union Territories said a government press release.</p>

<p style="font-weight: 400;">The Defence Minister also laid the foundation stone for Nechiphu Tunnel in Arunachal Pradesh.</p>
<p style="font-weight: 400;">These bridges are of strategic importance and provide connectivity to remote areas. The Defence Minister congratulated DG and all ranks of Border Roads Organization (BRO) for their achievements and said that the dedication of 44 bridges in one go in itself was a record.</p>

<p style="font-weight: 400;">“Extremely happy to dedicate 44 major permanent bridges to the nation today. The foundation stone for Nechiphu Tunnel was also laid on this occasion in Arunachal Pradesh,” Singh said in a series of tweets.</p>
<p style="font-weight: 400;">“These 44 bridges are spread over seven states and union territories. I congratulate DG Border Roads Organization and his team for doing exemplary work in challenging times. Inauguration of 44 bridges in one go in itself is a significant achievement,” he said.</p>

“Despite facing the challenges posed by the Pandemic and the situation at the borders India has been resolute in its response. The nation has also been successful in completing its infrastructure projects under the inspiring leadership of our Prime Minister Shri @narendramodi,” Singh said.

“The inauguration of 44 bridges today will improve connectivity in the far-flung areas of Western, Northern and North East sectors and fulfill the aspirations of local people. They would also meet the transport and logistics requirements of the armed forces throughout the year. These border infrastructure projects are of strategic importance and provide connectivity to remote areas,” Rajnath further added.

The Defence Minister inaugurated the project through a video-conference.
<p style="font-weight: 400;">Minister of State for Development of North Eastern Region Jitendra Singh, Sports Minister Kiren Rijiju, Chief of Defence Staff Bipin Rawat, Chief of Army Staff General M.M. Naravane, and the Chief Minister and the Governor concerned also attended the conference.</p>
The Defence Minister also announced that the government has sanctioned high altitude clothing to BRO engineers and workers.
<p style="font-weight: 400;">Lt. Gen. Harpal Singh, DG BRO, said the 44 bridges of various spans ranging from 30 meters to 484 meters are located in Jammu and Kashmir (10), Ladakh (08), Himachal Pradesh (02), Punjab (04), Uttarakhand (08), Arunachal Pradesh (08) and Sikkim (04).</p>

<p style="font-weight: 400;">He said that in addition to expediting road construction, the BRO has laid special emphasis on the construction of bridges by completing 28 major bridges last year while 102 major bridges are being completed this year. Fifty four of these bridges have already been completed. Over 60 Bailey bridges have also been constructed by BRO to meet the immediate requirements of armed forces and people living in remote areas.</p>.
