President reassures farmers that government is fully committed to their welfare

<p>
With any eye on the farmers, the President address in the Central Hall at Parliament focussed agrarian sector.</p>

President Ram Nath Kovind on Monday hailed Indian farmers for boosting the country’s agriculture sector.</p>
<p>
Talking about the Centre’s attempt to strengthen India’s agriculture sector.  “The government procured 433 lakh metric tonnes of wheat during the Rabi season benefiting about 50 lakh farmers.”, the President said. He went on to point out that a “record quantity of about 900 lakh metric tonnes of paddy was procured during Kharif season, benefiting 1 crore 30 lakh farmers.”</p>
<p>
The President maintained that agriculture exports have “reached a record level increasing more than 25 percent in 2020-21 to nearly Rs 3 lakh crore.”</p>
<p>
He also credited small farmers for the strength of the Indian agricultural sector.</p>
<p>
It may be mentioned following the 13 month long farmers’ agitation, the BJP has been trying hard to woo the Jat farmers in western Uttar Pradesh.</p>
<p>
The President also talked about PM-Kisan Samman Nidhi and direct cash transfer of Rs 1.80 crore to more than 11 crore farmer families. He also said that over Rs one lakh crore had been given as compensation to eight crore farmers since crop insurance scheme changes were made.</p>
<p>
Addressing both Houses of Parliament mentioned that “record delivery”of over 150 crore Covid vaccine doses “has made India one of the leading countries with the highest doses administered.”</p>
<p>
the President also made a special mention of the draft bill bringing the legal marriageable age of women at par with men at 21 years.</p>
<p>
While Congress president, Sonia Gandhi was absent, Prime Minister Narendra Modi, ministers Rajnath Singh, Amit Shah, Nitin Gadkari, Pralhad Patel, deputy chairman Rajya Sabha Harivansh, BJP chief JP Nadda, Leader of Opposition in Rajya Sabha Mallikarjun Kharge, Leader of Congress in Lok Sabha Adhir Ranjan Chowdhury and TMC leader in LS Sudip Bandopadhyay were seated in the front row in the Central Hall of Parliament during the address.</p>
