Prime Minister Narendra Modi will hold a meeting with the vaccine manufacturers on Tuesday to discuss issues related to production. A source said that as India fights Covid 19 resurgence, a concrete plan needs to be put in place to ensure availability especially now as the Centre announced opening up of vaccination drive for all citizens above the age of 18.
“This will lead to a huge increase in demand for vaccines and there needs to be a proper plan in place,” the source said.
According to IANS, representatives of top drug makers from India and abroad, including companies whose vaccines have been approved by the government will also attend the meeting.
From May 1, all adult Indians will be eligible to take the Covid 19 vaccine.
Until now India has managed to vaccinate over 120 million people.
While India has already approved administration of Russia developed Sputnik V, it is also looking at fast-tracking imports of other vaccines into the country.
