PM Modi steps up outreach to eastern India by inaugurating new cancer facility in Kolkata

<p>
Prime Minister Narendra Modi has stepped up his outreach to the people of east and northeast India by virtually inaugurating the second campus of Chittaranjan National Cancer Institute (CNCI) in Kolkata, which will cater to the region.</p>
<p>
"The second campus of CNCI has been built in line with the Prime Minister's vision to expand and upgrade the health facilities in all parts of the country. CNCI was facing a heavy load of cancer patients and a need for expansion was being felt for some time. This need will be fulfilled through the second campus," a statement issued by the Prime Minister's Office said.</p>

The inauguration of the anti-cancer hub in Kolkata is part of the Prime Minister’s focused outreach to the people of the eastern and northeast India.</p>
<p>
On Tuesday, PM Modi inaugurated 13 Projects worth around Rs 1,850 crores and laid the foundation stone of 9 projects worth around Rs 2,950 crore in a big push to the development of Manipur as part of the government’s “Act East Policy.”</p>
<p>
The Prime Minister laid the foundation stone of the construction of five National Highway Projects to be built at a cost of more than Rs 1700 crore.</p>
<p>
The Prime Minister also inaugurated the Steel Bridge over Barak River on NH-37 built at a cost of over Rs 75 crore. The bridge will enhance seamless year-round connectivity to Silchar from Imphal and reduce traffic congestion.</p>
<p>
He also dedicated, to the people of Manipur, 2,387 mobile telecom towers built at a cost of around Rs 1100 crores.</p>
<p>
A Rs 280 crore worth 'Water Transmission system of Thoubal Multi-purpose project', which will provide drinking water supply to the Imphal city and two other water schemes for other towns built at a cost Rs 116 crore were also thrown open.</p>

On the same day, PM Modi inaugurated the Rs 450 crore New Integrated Terminal Building of Maharaja Bir Bikram (MBB) Airport at Agartala and launched Mukhyamantri Tripura Gram Samriddhi Yojana and Project Mission 100 of Vidyajyoti Schools describing them as three New Year gifts for the people of Tripura.</p>

The Prime Minister had said that the capacity of the Agartala airport would now go up by three times and it would boost the connectivity for the entire North-east region. The cargo terminal that was coming up at the airport would pave the way for Tripura to become the economic hub of the region, he added.</p>
<p>
PM Modi said the waterway link to neighbouring Bangladesh was also being developed which would enable Tripura to emerge as an international trade hub. This would get further impetus as a rail link was also being built from Tripura to Akhaura in Bangladesh, he added.</p>

While inaugurating the CNCI campus on Friday, the Prime Minister stressed that his administration had prioritised mass free- of -cost vaccinations for the people of West Bengal to Covid-19.</p>
<p>
"West Bengal has received 11 crore free doses by the Central Govt. Over 1,500 ventilators and 9,000 oxygen cylinders have also been provided. 49 PSA Oxygen Plants are also functional. All of these would help the people of WB in the fight against COVID," PM Modi observed.</p>
<p>
He pointed out that in just 5 days, more than 1.5 crore children aged between 15-18 have been given the first dose of vaccination.</p>
<p>
"Out of the entire eligible population, over 90% of India's population has at least one dose. In just 5 days, over 1.5 crore kids aged between 15-18 have been given a dose."</p>
<p>
The government’s aggressive counterattack with mass vaccinations and much more comes at a time when the third wave Covid-19 is sweeping across India.</p>
