PM Modi meets Biden and Macron as G20 kicks off in Bali

Prime Minister Narendra Modi had a brief interaction with US President Joe Biden just before the inaugural session of the G-20 summit in Bali began.

External Affairs Minister S. Jaishankar and National Security Advisor Ajit Doval flanked the Prime Minister while he shook hands with President Biden and spoke briefly with him.

The Prime also warmly met French President Emmanuel Macron at the venue. A brief discussion at the start of the

Earlier Indonesian President Joko Widodo has welcomed PM Modi upon his arrival at Bali’s Apurva Kempisnky Hotel for the Food and Energy Security Session of the 17th G-20 summit.

The session follows PM Modi’s arrival in Bali on Monday where he was accorded a warm red-carpet welcome.

After his arrival  the Prime Minister was also enthusiastically welcomed by the Indian community in Bali.

“Grateful to the Indian community for the warm welcome in Bali!” PM Modi tweeted.

In his departure statement, the Prime Minister said that during the Bali Summit,  he would have  extensive discussions with other G20 leaders on key issues of global concern, such as reviving global growth, food and energy security, environment, health, and digital transformation. Foreign Secretary Vinay Kwatra said earlier that PM Modi will be attending three crucial working sessions on food and energy security, digital transformation and health during his three-day stay in Indonesia.

He also pointed out that the summit was a significant moment for our country and citizens for President Widodo of Indonesia will hand over the G20 Presidency to India at the closing ceremony of the Bali Summit. “India will officially assume the G20 Presidency from 1st December 2022. I will also extend my personal invitation to G20 Members and other invitees to our G20 Summit next year,” he observed.
