PM Modi launches physical distribution of property cards, to benefit about one lakh property holders

Much like the Aadhaar Card, Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Sunday launched physical distribution of property cards under the Survey of Villages And Mapping With Improvised Technology In Village Areas (SVAMITVA) scheme. Modi, who launched the scheme via video conferencing, described it as a historic effort towards rural transformation.

“We will make sure that property cards reach every village in the country,” Modi said while launching the scheme. “For decades, crores of families in villages across the country did not have a home of their own. Today, nearly two crore poor families in villages have got pucca houses," Modi added.

This will facilitate property holders from over 750 villages in six states of Maharashtra, Karnataka, Uttar Pradesh, Haryana, Madhya Pradesh and Uttarakhand. These states have already signed a memorandum of understanding (MoU) with the Survey of India for drone survey for implementation of the scheme. The states have also identified the villages for the survey, while finlaising the digital property card.

The beneficiaries will also be able to use their property as a financial asset which in turn will facilitate them with loans and other financial benefits.
