PM Modi lauds Lachit Barphukan’s heroism as inspiration for the rise of New India

Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Friday ringed the heroism of the Assam general Lachit Barphukan with the rise of a New India, which draws inspiration from a new set of patriotic individuals and forces.

Speaking at a function in honour of Barphukan’s 400th birth anniversary, PM Modi said that India, which has broken out of its old shell, had shed its colonial mindset. He stressed that India had entered the era of Amritkal—a 25-year period when the country would advance to become a fully developed nation by 2047. In referring to Amritkal, the Prime Minister was touching upon a major theme of his August 15 address of timing India’s transition to a fully developed country with 100 years of national independence.

Born on 24th November 1622 in Charaideo, Lachit Barphukan showed uncommon military skills and fortitude to defeat the Mughals, thereby halting Aurangzeb’s expansionist dreams in the Battle of Saraighat.

“Today, India has broken the shackles of colonialism and is moving forward, celebrating our heritage and remembering our heroes with pride”, said the Prime Minister.

“Leaving behind the colonial mindset, the nation is filled with a sense of pride in our heritage. Today, India isn’t only celebrating its cultural diversity but also proudly remembering historical heroes of its culture,” he said at the 400th birth anniversary celebration of Lachit Barphukan.

Analysts say that in today’s address PM Modi was amplifying three other major points raised during his seminal Independence Day address. Apart from decolonising their minds, Indian people had to take pride in the country’s unique heritage, foster steely unity and perform their duties proactively.

“Great personalities like Lachit Barphukan, and immortal offsprings of Bharat Maa are our constant inspirations for the fulfilment of the resolutions of this Amrit Kaal,” he said.

By lionising LA chit Barphukan, PM Modi had messaged the Northeast India that it was as much a part of the national mainstream as any other part of India. “I pay my respects to the land of Assam who gave us brave hearts like Lachit Barphukan. We received the opportunity to celebrate the 400th birth anniversary celebrations of Lachit Barphukan at a time when the country is celebrating the Amrit Kaal of its independence. This historic occasion is a proud chapter in the history of Assam,” he said.

PM Modi spotlighted that Lachit Barphukan’s life inspires us to live the mantra of ‘Nation First.’

“The new India is moving forward with the mantra of ‘Nation First’. When a nation knows about its heritage, it can create a path for its future. Veer Lachit Barphukan’s life gives us inspiration and direction, to always give priority to our great nation’s welfare,” he observed.
