Prime Minister Narendra Modi extended his greetings on the International Women’s day while paying tribute to Nari Shakti.
“We greatly cherish the role of women in India’s progress. Our government will keep working to further women empowerment. #NariShaktiForNewIndia,” the Prime Minister tweeted.
On the occasion, he also shared a compilation of women achievers whose life journeys were chronicled in his “Mann Ki Baat”.
Modi has been stressing on the importance of gender equality in building a new India.
Earlier, while addressing the nation on Independence Day last year he underlined the need to maintain respect for women and boost “Nari Shakti” or woman power. He also said that women’s participation and their role will form the pillar of India’s growth and noted the importance of maintaining the dignity of women.
“Our Nari Shakti is being represented in all sectors- in police, villages etc. The more opportunities we give to our daughters, the more they will take us forward,” he said in his speech.
Beti Bachao Beti Padhao, One Stop Centre Scheme, Women Helpline Scheme launched in 2015 and Mahila Police Volunteers Scheme in 2016 are among the prominent ongoing programmes to empower women and bring gender parity.
The Centre is also aggressively working towards early implementation and notification of the pending labour codes to enhance income levels and livelihoods of workers while promoting gender diversity in the workforce.
The new set of labour laws essentially aims at providing equal opportunities to women workers as well while ensuring wage parity with their men counterparts.
The India Brand Equity Foundation noted that women’s empowerment paired with gender equality is the key to fundamental human rights and is inevitable in our journey towards a more peaceful, progressive, and sustainable world.
