Person who threw smartphone on PM’s vehicle in Mysuru had no ill intention, says police

After the security breach on Sunday during Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s roadshow in Mysuru for the Karnataka polls, the state police said that the person who threw the smartphone on the PM’s vehicle was a BJP worker and there was “no ill intention” behind the act.

Additional Director General of Police (ADGP), law and Order, Alok Kumar said that the phone belonged to a BJP worker.

“The person who threw the phone on the vehicle of the PM had no ill intention. It was thrown in excitement. The phone belongs to a BJP worker. The Prime Minister was under the protection of the SPG. We have traced the person, the phone was handed over to the person by the SPG,” news agency ANI cited Alok Kumar as saying.

A video of the incident shows the phone being thrown towards the Prime Minister’s vehicle and landing on the bonnet.

The BJP worker has been called to record a statement tomorrow morning, added the ADGP law and order.

A large number of people and BJP supporters had gathered on both sides of the road to greet the Prime Minister during the roadshow for the party’s election campaign, waving party flags and showering flowers. The smart phone had landed on the bonnet of the vehicle amid the flower petals.

PM Modi was travelling in a specially designed vehicle and reciprocated the greetings as part of his outreach to the people.

The Prime Minister has given a big booster shot to the BJP’s campaign for the Karnataka assembly elections with a series of poll rallies and roadshows.

The Assembly elections will be held in Karnataka on May 10 and the counting of votes will take place on May 13.
