Passengers on IndiGo flight have close shave as plane’s tail hits runway on landing

Passengers on board an Indigo flight that took off from Mumbai had a close shave as plane suffered a tail strike during landing at Nagpur airport.

The plane was grounded after the incident that took place on April 14.

“On 14th April 2023, flight 6E 203 from Mumbai had a tail strike while landing at Nagpur. The aircraft was declared grounded at Nagpur airport for assessment and repairs. The incident is being investigated in detail,” IndiGo said in a statement.

No injuries were reported in the incident, the airline said.

A tail strike occurs when the rear of the aircraft fuselage hits the runway.  It often occurs due to pilot error during take-off if the nose is raised too early or too sharply. Or during landing, if the nose is raised too sharply. Strong winds can also be a contributing factor.
