Indian Railways has speeded up the pace of its electrification covering 1223 Route Kilometers (RKMs) during April to October of the current financial year (2022-23) which represents a 36.4% jump over the 895 RKM electrified in the same period last year, according to an official statement released today.
As on Oct 31 this year 53,470 km of the broad gauge network of Indian Railways has been electrified which works out to 82.08% of the total network of 65,141 km.
“Indian Railways has embarked upon an ambitious plan of electrification of its complete Broad Gauge network which would not only result in a better fuel energy usage resulting in increased throughput, reduced fuel expenditure but also savings in precious foreign exchange as dependence on diesel locomotives is reduced, according to the Railway Ministry statement.
