NRI nabbed at IGI airport over alleged involvement in terror funding and targeted killings

The State Special Operation Cell (SSOC) of Punjab Police arrested a Spain-based Indian national Harjeet Singh from Indira Gandhi International Airport, New Delhi for alleged involvement in terror fundings and target killings in the state of Punjab. The cops also nabbed one of his accomplices identified as Amrinder Singh, alias Bunty, from Khanna, district Ludhiana.

The development came in less than a week after Punjab Police busted a target killing module handled by foreign entities linked to Khalistan Liberation Force (KLF) and arrested five members. “Some terrorist elements based abroad have formed a terror module by recruiting foot soldiers through criminals lodged in jails and are hatching a conspiracy to target minority leaders, police officials and other prominent people to disturb peace and harmony in the state. This new module has links with the same foreign-based handlers who had targeted Shiv Sena (Samajwadi) leader Rajeev Mahajan in Batala recently on June 24”, DGP Gaurav Yadav had then said.

Elaborating on same SSOC AIG Ashwani Kapur said that Harjeet was arrested following a tip off and that Harjeet hailing from village Ghanshampur of district Gurdaspur had come to India around a month ago and is involved in activities of terror funding and also planning to execute few target killings in the state.

“He was about to leave for Spain by boarding a flight from IGI airport. The police issued a look out circular (LOC) against him, which eventually led to his arrest on Tuesday from the airport. Further investigations revealed that his terror activities were assisted by his aide Amrinder who was arrested from Khanna. The preliminary investigation revealed that both the accused came in contact with each other through social media and shared similar radical psychology. Harjeet Singh had sent financial aid to his accomplice Amrinder several times from Spain to execute target killing of religious leaders,” said Kapur.

The AIG said investigations have also revealed that Harjeet was working at the behest of some foreign-based radicals linked to KLF and has been using two pseudo Facebook accounts for promoting radical content, including activities of Sikhs for Justice (SFJ).
