Nokia CEO Pekka Lundmark met Prime Minister Narendra Modi in Delhi on Tuesday
Nokia CEO Pekka Lundmark met Prime Minister Narendra Modi in Delhi on March 13 and discussed the Finnish telecom giant’s role in India’s 5G rollout and the scope for its participation in the digital transformation that India was planning in the next generation 6G phase.
The Nokia CEO shared a picture with the PM and tweeted, “A privilege to meet with Prime Minister Modi @PMOIndia and discuss how @nokia is contributing to India’s #5G journey and next phase of digital transformation and also how we intend to support India’s #6G ambitions.”
PM Modi also retweeted the post and said, “A fruitful meeting with Mr.@PekkaLundmarkin which we discussed aspects relating to technology and leveraging it for the welfare of society. We also discussed India’s strides in building next generation digital infrastructure.”
India has just started rolling out the 5G is the fifth-generation technology standard for broadband cellular networks. , which cellular phone companies began deploying worldwide in 2019, and is the planned successor to the 4G networks which provide connectivity to most current cellphones.
The new 5G networks have higher download speeds, eventually up to 10 gigabits per second (Gbit/s). In addition, 5G has higher bandwidth and can thus connect more different devices, improving the quality of Internet services in crowded areas.
Due to the increased bandwidth, it is expected the networks will increasingly be used as general internet service providers (ISPs) for laptops and desktop computers, competing with existing ISPs such as cable internet, and also will make possible new applications in internet-of-things (IoT) and machine-to-machine areas.
