Delhi cops have launched a manhunt for Mumbai businessman Shankar Mishra, who urinated on a woman in an Air India plane while flying from New York to Delhi six weeks ago, and was allowed to go scot-free by the airline.
Apart from Mumbai, the Delhi Police has sent a team to Bengaluru where his sister lives, as he was believed to have been last seen in the city.
The sister has also been questioned about his whereabouts, according to police sources.
The police have also issued a ‘Look Out Circular’ which stops him from leaving the country.
According to police sources, investigators have “some leads” on his location and are working on it.
Air India has come in for scathing criticism over the horrifying incident and the aviation regulator Directorate General of Civil Aviation (DGCA) has sought an explanation over its handling of the incident in November.
Air India’s staff has come under scrutiny as a complaint was made to the police only after the woman’s letter to the group chairman of Air India, N Chandrasekaran, surfaced.
Shankar Mishra who was working as vice president of Wells Fargo has been sacked by the company because of his uncouth act on board the Air India flight.
Meanwhile, Shankar Mishra’s lawyers issued a statement on Friday, claiming he had got the lady victim’s clothes and bags cleaned on November 28 and were returned to her on November 30.
The lady’s persisting grievance was only with respect to the adequate compensation being paid by the Airline for which she has raised a subsequent complaint on December 20, 2, the lawyers alleged.
Ishanee Sharma and Akshat Bajpai, the lawyers for Mishra, also said he had paid compensation via Paytm but her daughter had returned the amount.
