Mumbai man who urinated on woman in Air India plane arrested from Bengaluru

Mumbai man Shankar Mishra, who urinated on a woman on board an Air India flight, was arrested in Bengaluru on Friday night by the Delhi police brought to the national capital, sources said.

The 35-year-old was on the run, and a lookout notice or airport alert was put out to nab him.

Apart from Mumbai, Delhi Police had sent a team to Bengaluru where Mishra’s sister lives, as he was believed to have been last seen in the city. Investigators had “some leads” on his location and had zeroed in.

Although Mishra had switched off his phone, he was using his social media accounts to keep in touch with his friends and used his credit card as well, which gave the police an opening to track him down, according to sources.

Mishra was working as vice president for Wells Fargo but has been sacked from his job after the horrifying news about him broke in the media.

Shankar Mishra had on Nov 26 urinated on a woman in the business class of a New York-Delhi Air India flight when he was heavily drunk. However, Air India had let go scot-free after the incident claiming he had apologised to the woman.

Air India has come in for scathing criticism over the horrifying incident as a complaint was made to the police only after the woman’s letter to the group chairman of Air India, N Chandrasekaran, surfaced.

The aviation regulator Directorate General of Civil Aviation (DGCA) has sought an explanation over its handling of the incident in November.

The complainant has stated in her complaint that she told the crew she did not want to see Mishra’s face and was “stunned when the offender was brought before her and “started crying and profusely apologising.” according to her complaint, which is part of the FIR (First Information

The 70-year-old woman has also accused the crew of being unprofessional and failing to be proactive in managing a “very sensitive and traumatic situation”.
