Monsoon showers in Delhi NCR bring relief from scorching heat

<p>
The monsoon entered Delhi today with rain bringing relief from the scorching summer heat in the capital as the temperature dropped to 29.2 degrees Celsius.</p>
<p>
According to India Meteorological Department (IMD), thunderstorms with light to moderate intensity rain and gusty winds with speed of 30-40 Km/h occurred over and adjoining areas of the entire Delhi and NCR.</p>
<p>
The Delhi traffic police has issued an alert and advised commuters to plan their journey before heading out.</p>
<p>
IMD said that weather conditions are favourable for the monsoon to advance further in several parts of India including Rajasthan, remaining parts of Madhya Pradesh, entire Uttar Pradesh and Himachal Pradesh and some parts of Jammu and Kashmir, some parts of Punjab, Haryana and Chandigarh.</p>
<p>
According to the IMD prediction, heavy rainfall is also  likely over Odisha, Bihar, West Bengal and Sikkim.</p>
<p>
Meanwhile, the flood situation in Assam worsened on Wednesday with 12 more people losing their lives and the number of affected people increasing to 31.5 lakh, with Silchar town in Cachar district remaining under water for the last 10 days.</p>
<p>
According to bulletin issued by the Assam State Disaster Management Authority (ASDMA), eleven people died due to floods and one in a landslide, pushing the toll due to floods and landslides in the state this year to 151.</p>
<p>
The number of affected people increased to 31.54 lakh in 26 districts, up from 24.92 lakh on the previous day. Brahmaputra, Beki, Kopili, Barak and Kushiyara rivers were flowing above the danger level.</p>
