A man in Hyderabad called off his wedding after he reportedly found that “old” furniture was given by the bride’s family as dowry, local police said on Monday.
The 25-year-old groom, Mohammed Zakeer, did not turn up for the wedding on Sunday at a local mosque where all the arrangements had been made for the ceremony and the guests had arrived. Zakeer works as a bus driver.
The bride’s father told journalists that the groom’s father misbehaved with him when he had gone to their house. He was told that all the dowry items that they had asked for were not provided and “used” furniture had been given.
“They refused to come. I had arranged for the feast for the wedding and invited all relatives and guests but the groom did not show up for his wedding,” the bride’s father said.
According to police, a case under relevant sections of the IPC and Dowry Prohibition Act was registered and further investigations are underway..
