The container with 20 tonnes of licorice root soaked with 345 kilograms of heroin was seized by Delhi Police Special Cell
A container with more than 20 tonnes of licorice root soaked with 345 kilograms of heroin has been seized at Jawaharlal Nehru Port Trust in Navi Mumbai by Delhi Police. Described as one of the biggest drug seizures, the value of heroin is estimated to be Rs.1,750 crore in the international market.
This consignment was recovered by the Delhi Police. Hargobinder Singh Dhaliwal, Special Commissioner of Police (Special Cell) informed the media that the container was being moved to Delhi for extraction and distribution and its value was Rs 1,750 crore.
Taking to Twitter the Delhi Police wrote: “The team of Special Cell of Delhi Police has recovered a consignment of 20 tonnes of heroin coat ‘Mulethi’ from the Jawaharlal Nehru Port Trust located in Navi Mumbai. Its price in the international market is around Rs 1,750 crore. Its wires are connected to Narco Terror. The inspection of the matter is going on.”
According to the police, the Special Cell had apprehended two Afghan nationals – Mustafa Stanikzai and Rahimullah Rahimi — with drugs worth Rs.1,200 crore in their possession on September 3 and during questioning they revealed the whereabouts of this container at the port in Mumbai.
