Two terrorists were killed in an encounter with the security forces in the Baramulla district of Jammu and Kashmir on Wednesday.
“On specific intelligence input regarding the presence of terrorists, a Joint Operation was launched by the Indian Army and Jammu and Kashmir Police today in the Hadipora area of PD Sopore; two terrorists eliminated, and the operation is in progress,” the Chinar Corps-Indian Army posted on X.
The operation is still underway.
Earlier today, an encounter broke out between security forces and terrorists in the Hadipora area of Sopore here.
Taking to X, Kashmir Zone police posted, “Encounter has started at Hadipora area of PD Sopore. Police and security forces are on the job. Further details shall follow.”
Since June 9, there have been terror strikes at four places in Reasi, Kathua and Doda in which nine pilgrims and a Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF) jawan were killed. A civilian and at least seven security personnel were also injured.
Earlier, Union Home Minister Amit Shah chaired a review meeting on the security scenario in Jammu and Kashmir and directed all security agencies to “work in a mission mode and ensure quick response in a coordinated manner.”
Last week on Thursday, Prime Minister Narendra Modi also chaired a high-level meeting to discuss the security situation in Jammu and Kashmir following the series of terror-related incidents.
The meeting, attended by National Security Advisor Ajit Doval and other senior officials, aimed to assess the current security landscape in the region.
