High drama prevailed in high security Amritsar Central jail as panic gripped it around midnight when a toy drone breached the security and entered the complex. The jail houses many declared terrorists and gangsters and paramilitary forces and jail staff got on toes suspecting it to be a jail break attempt. The entire state was put on alert and barricades were put across Amritsar.
It was eventually found that the drone was allegedly flown by two children, who claimed it went out of control and landed in jail setting off the alarm hooters. The police has apprehended their father and verifying his details. Neither the jail authorities nor local police has issued any official statement but highly placed sources claim that they are verifying the claims of children flying drone post-midnight and also possibility of any recee of the jail. “The investigations are underway and no threat has been detected so far however we cannot take this lightly in wake of recent instances in city. We want to ensure that this is not a recee attempt or any similar activity before any planned crime in the jail”, said a senior jail official.
The drama unfolded at around 2:00 am today when local police officials rushed to the central jail and sealed all entry and exit points. The para military force too was called and put on alert.
It may be noted that the Amritsar central jail is one of the most sensitive prisons of Punjab and the current complex was built nearly seven years ago in the densely populated area in Fatahpur village area. It houses notorious criminals including gangsters, infamous drug peddlers and foreign nationals. A jail break was reported in 2020 when three inmates managed to escape by jumping over the walls in February.
Meanwhile, the Border Security Force (BSF) recovered a Pakistani drone on the outskirts of Shaidpur Kalan village in Amritsar district today morning.
An official spokesperson of the BSF Punjab Frontier informed that the recovered drone is a Quadcopter of model DJI Matrice 300 RTK series.
