India remembers martyrs of Pulwama terror attack

Prime Minister Narendra Modi said today that no Indian can forget the 2019 terror attacks in Pulwama. Speaking in Tamil Nadu, Modi said: "No Indian can forget this day. Two years ago Pulwama happened. We pay homage to all martyrs we lost. We are proud of security forces and their bravery will inspire generations."

The Prime Minister handed over the indigenously developed Arjun Main Battle Tank (Mark 1A) to Army Chief General MM Naravane and inaugurated several key projects in Chennai.

Defence Minister Rajnath Singh too paid tribute to the Pulwama soldiers who died in the suicide bombing in Jammu and Kashmir's (J&K) in 2019. Singh tweeted: "I pay homage to those brave @crpfindia personnel who sacrificed their lives in 2019 Pulwama terror attack. India will never forget their service to the nation and their supreme sacrifice. We continue to stand with their families, who had to suffer due to this attack."

Home Minister Amit Shah also paid tribute to the Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF) troopers. "I bow down to the brave martyrs who lost their lives in the gruesome Pulwama attack on this day in 2019. India will never forget their exceptional courage and supreme sacrifice," he wrote on Twitter.

On February 14, 2019, forty CRPF men lost their lives in one of the deadliest terror attacks on Indian troops. A suicide bomber rammed an IED-laden vehicle into a 78-bus CRPF convoy. The attack was traced to the Pakistan-based Jaish-e-Mohammad (JeM) suicide bomber.

Other ministers and various political parties also remembered the Pulwama attack.

Civil Aviation minister Hardeep Puri too shared his tribute. Puri tweeted: "On the 2nd anniversary of the dastardly Pulwama terror attack on our soldiers, I join the nation in paying homage to their valour & supreme sacrifice. They will continue to inspire generations to come."

Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath said the sacrifice of the soldiers will always inspire the nation in its fight against terrorism. "Tribute to the immortal sacrifices of Pulwama attack who sacrificed their lives for our safe future. Their immortal sacrifice will always inspire us to fight against terrorism," Chief Minister Adityanath posted on Twitter.

The Pulwama attack led to the Indian Air Force (IAF) carrying out an air strike against a JeM centre in Balakot in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa. India claimed that it had destroyed a terror training centre and killed hundreds of terrorists who were being prepared to carry out terror activities in India. Pakistan, however, said that Indian fighters hit a hilltop.
