India Post starts 24×7 intelligent parcel delivery system in Pune

Representational image. India Post have started a 24x7 parcel delivery system at Pune by which a packet can be collected by typing in the OTP

Professionals and service people, who are generally not at home during working hours when their parcels arrive by post, face the problem of collecting them.  At present when parcel delivery doesn’t materialise despite two attempts by the delivery personnel, the customer is informed, who then has to collect it from the post office during working hours within a stipulated period of six days, failing which the packet is returned.

Now India Post has come up with a solution to this problem by installing ANVIT – an intelligent 24 x7 parcel delivery system — at the Infotech Post Office which is located in Pune’s Rajiv Gandhi Infotech Park.  They can collect their missed home delivery parcels sent through India Post, even after working hours or on holidays using a One Time Password (OTP).

This machine, which was inaugurated by Pune Region’s Postmaster General G. Madhumita Das on Monday, has the capacity of storing 14 boxes of diverse sizes and weights at any given time for seven days. In the situation of non-delivery due to the house being locked or the receiver not being there, the delivery person will send an OTP on the concerned receiver’s phone number.

The person then can go to the post office any time and key-in the OTP on the ANVIT machine. Following verification, the box which holds the concerned parcel will unlock for the customer.

It is hoped by India Post that with ANVIT, a 24×7 intelligent parcel collection facility, being installed it will go a long way in addressing the issue of last mile delivery.

Based on the feedback and response of the public to the ANVIT, India Post will install this machine in other post offices of the city, Das said.

Under this Maharashtra Circle of Post Office pilot initiative similar machines were installed in Washim and Thane post offices last week.
