In message to China, PM Modi signals New India’s commitment to fully develop Arunachal Pradesh

Prime Minister Narendra Modi today said that New India is committed to developing border infrastructure which includes building airports, roads and turning villages into frontline hamlets that are fully drawn in the national mainstream.

Inaugurating the Donyi Polo Airport, Arunachal Pradesh’s first greenfield airport, PM Modi was also sending a message to China that the border states were an integral part of India, thereby dismissing Beijing’s claim on the border state.

With the inauguration of the new airport, PM Modi said that the North-East is witnessing a dawn of new hopes and opportunities.

“Today Northeast is witnessing a dawn of new hopes and opportunities. Today’s event is a great example of New India’s approach towards development,” he said.

PM Modi added that the Donyi Polo Airport is the fourth operational airport of Arunachal Pradesh.

“Donyi Polo Airport is the 4th operational airport of Arunachal Pradesh. Within 8 years, the government has constructed seven new airports which have improved connectivity,” he said.

The Prime Minister stressed that his government will prioritise developing border villages as frontline hamlets.

“Today even the remotest corners of the North-Eastern region are electrified.”

“Our government worked considering the villages in the border areas as the first village of the country. It is our endeavour to strengthen the villages in border areas.”

The Prime Minister also inaugurated the 600 MW Kameng Hydro Power Station, as part of a border infrastructure initiative.

Built at a cost of more than Rs 8450 crore and in an area spread over more than 80 kilometres in West Kameng District of Arunachal Pradesh, the project will make Arunachal Pradesh a power surplus state.

Highlighting the infrastructural developments in Arunachal Pradesh, the Prime Minister said that the central government is going to spend another 50,000 crore rupees in the near future. PM Modi underlined the natural beauty of Arunachal Pradesh and remarked that the state has great potential for tourism.

He stressed the need for proper connectivity to remote areas of the state and informed that 85 percent of villages in Arunachal are connected with Pradhan Mantri Gram Sadak Yojna. With the development of the new airport infrastructure, the Prime Minister informed that it will create huge opportunities in the field of cargo services. As a result, the farmers of the state can now sell their produce to bigger markets. He also informed that the farmers are reaping the benefits of PM Kisan Nidhi in the state.

Spotlighting his government’s focus on developing the North East, PM Modi said the longest bridge in India, the longest railroad bridge, is being constructed in the region. “This is a new era of expectations and aspirations and today’s programme is a perfect example of the new approach of India”, he observed.
