Weather office warns of very heavy rain in Kerala, Karnataka

India Meteorological Department has warned of heavy to very heavy rainfall in Kerala and Karnataka for today.

A red alert has been issued for Kannur, Kasargod and Idukki districts while an orange alert has been sounded for the remaining districts.

Educational institutions in Kasargod, Ernakulam and Alappuzha have been given holidays by district collectors due to heavy rain in the state.

The weather bulletin issued today states that intense rainfall is likely to continue over south Peninsular India & north Maharashtra till the 6th and over Gujarat during 6th-8th July.

*West India: Light to moderate widespread rainfall with Isolated Heavy to very Heavy rainfall is very likely over Konkan & Goa and ghat areas of Madhya Maharashtra during next 5 days and over Gujarat state on 6th & 7th July.

*Isolated extremely heavy rainfall is also likely over Konkan & Goa and ghat areas of Madhya Maharashtra on 5th and 6th July and over Gujarat on 7th July.

*Northwest India: Light/moderate fairly widespread to widespread rainfall with isolated heavy rainfall is very likely over Uttarakhand, Himachal Pradesh during next 5 days and over East Uttar Pradesh during 4th – 6th; Punjab, Haryana during 6th-8th; East Rajasthan during 5th -8th and West Rajasthan on 7th & 8th July.
