The Directorate of Revenue Intelligence (DRI) seized 8 kg of heroin, worth Rs 50 crores in the international market, at Mumbai airport on Sunday and arrested two foreign nationals who were caught smuggling the drug.
Acting on prior intelligence, the Mumbai Zonal Unit intercepted the passengers who had arrived on a flight from Addis Ababa. to Mumbai. A thorough check of their baggage revealed two packets of white powder each weighing 4 kg which was later found to be heroin.
The passengers were put under arrest and were later remanded to judicial custody.
Investigations are on in the case to unravel the wider drug smuggling syndicate involved in the racket.
