Heavy rains lash Bengaluru, weather office issues yellow alert

Heavy rains lashed Bengaluru on Wednesday evening, flooding several main roads in the city as well as the IT zone at Bellandur.

India Meteorological Department (IMD) had already issued a yellow alert for the city, indicative of heavy rain, which it said will continue for the next three days. As much as 59 mm rainfall was recorded in the city.

Visuals from low-lying areas showed heavily waterlogged roads, with water flowing into open manholes, flooded basement parkings and damaged vehicles. Office-goers on way home had to take shelter at metro stations, as the rains started around 7.30 pm.

A wall near the Majestic collapsed due to the heavy rain which resulted   in damage to several vehicles parked on the road.

Bengaluru has broken all records for heavy rains this year, logging 706 mm since the monsoon started.

Last month, the city had been hit by unprecedented floods after rain for three days in a row. Schools were shut as normal life was disrupted. Roads turned into rivers and posh housing colonies were flooded with tractors being used to rescue residents.
