Showing zero-tolerance to communal rioting, the Haryana government has launched a drive to demolishing illegal structures used during communal riots in Nuh. Over 150 houses/establishments and 250 shanties of accused and suspects were pulled down by district authorities after the July 31 clashes. The state was terrorised on July 31 when a Jalabhishek yatra organised by Vishva Hindu Parishad (VHP) and Bajrang dal was attacked by mob of meo Muslims. The attackers resorted to stone pelting, torching vehicles and even firing killing 6 and injuring 80 including 57 cops, police said.
Taking a stern stance, the Haryana government nabbed over 200 rioters in the last two days and launched ‘Bulldozer justice’. It started with mowing down illegal shanties of mobsters believed to be Rohingyas in Tauru yesterday which continued across Nuh yesterday. According to sources, around nine locations which were key during the July 31 attack and houses of suspects and accused of Nuh violence were targeted.
Amongst the demolitions the most prominent were 5 acres of land in Nalhar where these houses either belonged to the accused or were used to fire bullets at around 2500 pilgrims hiding in Nalhar Mahadev temple. The houses and the surrounding shops were allegedly illegally erected on government land and the roads leading to them too were dug. The terraces of these houses were allegedly used by the unidentified mobsters for firing at the temple.
Similar exercise was carried out at Khedla Mor where maximum stone pelting was witnessed and cars were burnt. The houses whose roofs were used to pelt stones were pulled down.
Amongst other locations targeted were six acres in Punhana, one acre each in Pinnagwana and Nagina, 2 acres in Nangal Mubarikpur and similar lands in Dharna village. The authorities had yesterday pulled down 250 shanties in Tauru.
Haryana CM ML Khattar issuing a statement said that the government had zero tolerance to encroachments and illegal constructions and thus Nuh was being freed of them. “We have zero tolerance to any crime, especially encroachment and illegal construction. These were lands of forest which have been freed,” said Khattar.
A senior police official confirmed that the properties had been identified over the last two days after preliminary interrogation of. Meanwhile SP and DC of Nuh were transferred out with immediate effect. Narinder Barjania is the new SP and Dhirender Khadgata is the new DC.
