Gold worth Rs 3 crore seized at Delhi airport

Customs officials have seized gold worth Rs 2.95 crore at Delhi airport that was being smuggled into the country by three passengers who had hidden the contraband inside body shapers, according to an official statement.

The three accused were intercepted after they arrived on a flight from Sharjah on October 28.

A thorough examination of the baggage revealed seven rectangular-shaped pouches containing chemical paste in which the gold was mixed. The paste was concealed in the pockets of body shapers belts kept in the handbags.

Around 6.67 kg gold was extracted from this paste which was moulded into 19 rectangular-shaped bars of gold valued at Rs 2.95 crore, the Customs department said in a statement.
