An aide of notorious gangster Lawrence Bishnoi was killed in a fight by members of a rival gang in a fight that broke out inside Delhi’s Tihar Jail on Friday evening. Four other prisoners were injured in the brawl, according to officials.
Prince Tewatia, a key member of the Bishnoi gang had a dispute with another jail inmate, Attatur Rehman who belongs to the rival Rohit Chaudhary-Ravi Gangwal gangs.
Tewatia is reported to have attacked Rehman with an improvised weapon and members of both the gangs joined the fight that left four people injured. Three of them are stated to be stable while Tewatia was taken to Deen Dayal Upadhyay Hospital where he was declared dead.
Tihar jail has been put on high alert in order to prevent any further attack to avenge the killing.
A case was registered and an inquiry by the chief judicial magistrate has been initiated, the official said.
Tewatia was previously involved in 16 criminal cases, including murder and attempt to murder. He was arrested for the first time in 2010 in a murder case.
In December 2022, Tewatia was arrested by the Delhi police in a case of carjacking in the city.
