Gadkari throws open 4-lane highway to cut Jamshedpur-Kolkata travel time

Union Minister for Road Transport and Highways Nitin Gadkari inaugurated and laid the foundation stones of 10 National Highway projects at Jamshedpur in Jharkhand at a cost of Rs. 3,843 crore today which will give a big boost to the infrastructure in the state.

The minister inaugurated the four-lane 44-km stretch between Jamshedpur and Mahulta on National Highway-33 which will drastically reduce the travel time between Jamshedpur and Kolkata. The highway has been constructed at a cost of Rs 465 crore.

The minister also laid the foundation stone for the construction of Jharkhand’s first 4-lane double-decker elevated road from Kali Mandir to Baliguma on Ranchi-Jamshedpur road at a cost of Rs 1,876 crores.

The Minister said Ranchi to Jamshedpur Inter Corridor will improve connectivity to West Bengal-Odisha. This corridor will bypass Ranchi city and connect Delhi-Kolkata Highway (NH-2) and East-West Corridor (NH-6),

He said this route from Hatgamaria to Bokna Hathichowk (NH-320G) in West Singhbhum district will provide better connectivity to Naxal-affected areas and aspirational districts with the construction of Kolavira road.

The project will also drive commercial development in Jharkhand, West Bengal and Odisha, he stated.

The highways are coming as part of Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s Bharatmala package that aims to give the country’s infrastructure a big push to take India on to a higher growth trajectory.
