Former India team cricketer Vinod Kambli arrested for drunk driving

Former Indian team cricketer Vinod Kambli was arrested by the Mumbai police on Sunday after he rammed his car into a parked car and the compound wall of his building in Bandra while driving after having imbibed alcohol.</p>
<p>
According to Bandra police Kambli then drove out of his building Jewel Co-op Housing Society at 12.30 pm after an argument with the watchman and other residents.</p>
<p>
Rajesh Devare, senior police inspector from Bandra police station said that they received a call from a local resident about Kambli’s condition.</p>
<p>
The patrolling vehicle near Lilavati Hospital was alerted. The officers then intercepted Kambli’s car and brought him to the police station. Devare said that he was alone in his car when he crashed into another four-wheeler.</p>
<p>
Kambli, 50, has been charged under Indian Penal Code (IPC) sections 279 (rash driving), 336 (endangering life or personal safety of others) and 427 (mischief causing damage), the Bandra police station official added.</p>
<p>
He was later released on bail. </p>
<p>
Kambli was a talented cricketer, who grew up playing with Sachin Tendulkar but is known for his wayward ways.</p>
<p>
Kambli made his India debut in 1991 and played 17 Tests scoring 1084 runs, including 4 centuries.  He played 104 ODIs for India, hitting 2477 runs, including 2 hundreds and retired in October 2000.</p>
