Flash floods in the wake of heavy rains disrupt life in Bengaluru Chennai

Flash floods in the wake of heavy rains have disrupted life in Bengaluru and Chennai with boats being deployed in some areas as the roads have turned into streams.</p>
<p>
Bengaluru saw heavy flooding overnight as water from the Allalasandra lake overflowed and inundated the surrounding areas. Several roads in northern Bengaluru were turned into streams due to torrential rain.</p>
<p>
The Yelahanka, Nagavara, Kogilu Cross and Vidyaranyapura areas of Bengaluru were particularly affected by the rain. In Yelahanka, 153 mm of rain fell in the last 24 hours alone.</p>

The National Disaster Response Force (NDRF) has stepped in for rescue and relief work,</p>
<p>
Similarly, many parts of northern Chennai were inundated due to excess discharge from the Kosasthalaiyar river.</p>
<p>
Excess water overflowing from the neighbouring Chittoor district in Andhra Pradesh which is one of the worst-hit regions due to the relentless rain over the week-end also contributed to the overnight deluge, as water from the Poondi reservoir in Tamil Nadu's Thiruvallur district reached the danger mark and had to be released.</p>

Boats have also been deployed in some areas of northern Chennai to help people as the streets are flooded.</p>
<p>
Andhra Pradesh has also faced the fury of incessant rain in which over 24 people having died while several are missing. Road and rail connectivity to the state was cut off due to the floods on Sunday. </p>
