Exit polls predict BJP victory in Tripura and Nagaland, tough fight in The BJP will easily gain a majority in Tripura and its alliance government will come to power in Nagaland, according to exit polls.

According to India Today, the BJP is expected to win between 36 to 45 seats in Tripura which gives it a clear majority in the state which has 60 assembly constituencies which puts the majority mark at 31.

Zee News-Matrize has predicted the BJP-NDPP alliance will win 35-43 of Nagaland, a state which also has 60 assembly constituencies.

In Meghalaya, a hung assembly is predicted as the BJP faces a tough fight with Conrad Sangma’s NPP, according to Zee News-Matrize.

The counting of votes in the three states will take place on March 2.

Meanwhile, Meghalaya recorded a voting percentage of over 76.66 per cent and Nagaland saw a voter turnout of over 8.66  per cent in the polling for assembly elections in the two northeastern states that ended on Monday evening, according to the Election Commission figures.

Polling was held at 3,419 polling stations across 59 Assembly constituencies in Meghalaya.

Of the 60 Assembly constituencies in Meghalaya, 36 constituencies are in Khasi, Jaintia Hills region while 24 are in Garo Hills region.

Polling for the Sohiong Assembly constituency was postponed following the demise of the state’s former Home Minister and United Democratic Party (UDP) candidate HDR Lyngdoh.

Over 21 lakh voters were eligible to cast votes including 10.99 lakh are women and 10.68 lakh male voters.

The counting of votes in Nagaland and Meghalaya along with that in Tripura, which went to the polls on February 16, will be taken up together.
