Engine driver sacked for taking liquor break and delaying train in Bihar’s Samastipur

The driver of a passenger train was caught taking a “liquor break” at a railway station in Bihar and delaying the train by over an hour.

Railway authorities have suspended Karamveer Yadav for drinking on the job and he has been arrested for consuming alcohol in a 'dry' state where such an act is prohibited by law.

The bizarre incident took place at Hasanpur station in Samastipur district on Monday evening shortly after a Saharsa-bound passenger train from Samastipur reached the platform.

The driver went missing mysteriously for about an hour in search of alcohol while leaving the train on the tracks, delaying hundreds of passengers on board and disrupting railway services on the Samastipur-Khagaria route.

The police have arrested the drunk driver along with an alcohol bottle.

Reports quoting railway officials and police said the loco pilot Karmveer Yadav went missing once the train was stopped at the station to enable the Rajdhani Express to pass.
