In a horrifying incident, an 8-year-old girl was crushed to death by a dumper truck in Mumbai’s Dahisar area on Thursday, when she was on her way back from school. The incident was caught on a CCTV camera and the victim was identified as Vidya Bansode.
The local police registered a case against the truck driver Mukesh Dhale under section 304 (A) of the IPC and arrested him, an ANI report said on Friday.
The video that has gone viral on social media shows the truck running over the girl even as people around shouted at the driver to stop.
At first, the girl fell down on being pushed by the truck. When a man yelled at the driver to take the truck back, the vehicle again moved a little ahead. The girl was picked up by some people. The truck driver then tried to flee but was overpowered by the locals, who informed the police about the incident.
“According to initial investigation, 32-year-old driver Mukesh Dhale was driving while he was drunk when the accident happened,” an Indian Express report quoted the police as saying.
The news report further quoted the FIR that said the 8-year-old was with her mother’s hand when the incident took place. They had just dropped her 13-year-old brother Chirag at school in Dahisar and were coming back home through the NN Dubey road when the tragedy happened near Sagar Jewellers.
