Doctor in Bengaluru runs for 3 km to beat traffic jam & reach in time to carry out life-saving surgery

A doctor in Bengaluru who was stranded in a nasty traffic jam in the city, chose to run for 3 km to reach the hospital where he works in time to carry out a crucial life-saving surgery, has won many hearts on social media.

Dr Govind Nandakumar, a gastroenterology surgeon at Manipal Hospitals, was on his way to perform an emergency laparoscopic gallbladder surgery on August 30 when he got stuck in the traffic jam on the Sarjapur-Marathalli stretch.

Realising that a delay could endanger the life of the female patient, Dr Nandakumar left his car with the driver and ran to beat the traffic jam. He has posted a short video clip of the run on his Instagram handle:

“I commute every day from central Bangalore to Manipal Hospitals, Sarjapur, which is in the Southeast of Bangalore. I left home well in time for the surgery. My team was all set and prepared to perform the surgery as soon as I would reach the hospital. Looking at the huge traffic, I decided to leave the car with the driver and ran towards the hospital without thinking twice,” he said.

Dr Nandakumar and his team then carried out the operation successfully and the patient, who was suffering from a gallbladder disease, has now been discharged from hospital.
