Diamonds from Madhya Pradesh’s Panna mines dazzle Surat and Mumbai merchants

National Mineral Development Corporation Ltd. (NMDC) has sold 8337 Carats of rough diamonds at its e-auction which received an overwhelming response from diamond merchants of Surat, Mumbai and Panna, the public sector company said in a statement on Wednesday.</p>

“About 8337 Carats of rough diamonds, produced at the NMDC mines at Panna in Madhya Pradesh prior to Dec’20, were offered in the e-auction and almost 100% of the quantity received winning bids,” the company explained.</p>
<p>
NMDC’s diamond mining project at Panna in Madhya Pradesh happens to be the only mechanised diamond mine in the country. The project is equipped with the facilities of Ore Processing Plant including heavy media separation unit, X-ray sorter for diamond separation and disposal system for tailings generated.</p>
<p>
NMDC managing director Sumit Deb said the company “has been in the sphere of mining for over six decades now. With state-of-the-art technology and unparalleled experience.”</p>
<p>
NMDC has its diamond mine at Panna in Madhya Pradesh, which is the only state in India that accounts for 90% of the total diamond resource for our country. NMDC’s has a production capacity of 84,000 carats per year, he added.</p>
<p>
NMDC, a public sector company under Ministry of Steel, is also India’s largest iron ore producer.</p>
