Delhi’s specially-abled to get free equipment to make them self-reliant

With the objective of helping the specially-abled people become self-reliant, economically independent and part of the society, it is vital to provide them with equipment that will aid them to do so. The Delhi Government under the Sugamya Sahayak Yojana intends to do this and for this the Social Welfare Department has prepared a list of equipment that will be provided to Divyangjans in the Capital.

Such equipment will be given free of cost to them. Among the 20 types of essential articles that are to be distributed are smart sticks, motorized tricycles, wheelchairs, and ear machines. Apart from these walking sticks, artificial limbs, crutches, hearing aids, walkers, walking canes, and rollers, foot care units, smart canes, folding active wheelchairs, and shorthand machines for the blind will also be disbursed.

The SWD will sign an MoU with the Artificial Limbs Manufacturing Corporation of India, a Mini Ratna Central Public Sector Enterprise which will supply the equipment for distribution.

It is expected that with the help of the equipment, the working capabilities of the Divyangjan will increase and they will be able to commute with greater ease and comfort.

The MoU will be for a period of five years and for this the SWD is preparing the documents and also identifying the equipment required.
