Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal has said that the Delhi government will install 48 oxygen plants. He said this while inspecting a new oxygen plant set up by the French government.

The Delhi Chief Minister added that these 48 include 21 being imported from France. Kejriwal tweeted: "Inspected the installation of the new oxygen plant at Satyawadi Raja Harishchandra Hospital. I want to thank the French govt for their support. We are setting up 48 such plants across Delhi to address shortage of oxygen."

This plant will provide 330 litres of oxygen, which will be sufficient for about 50-60 cylinders. This will go a long way in supporting healthcare services in the 200-bed hospital. The CM added that even though these are small plants, "I feel they will provide a lot of support to the entire system that is under pressure due to shortage of oxygen."

Kejriwal added that Delhi has seen an acute shortage of oxygen in the last few days, therefore, is trying to produce as much oxygen as is possible, besides procuring it from the Central government.

The Delhi government has also made availability of oxygen easy for the common people. It has enabled patients under home isolation to get oxygen at home. It has asked people to register their availability so that officials can mark out the nearest oxygen depot from where they can get an oxygen cylinder.

Under another initiative, the Delhi government is updating the Delhi corona app, through which it is providing real-time information to patients about oxygen availability. The app had been launched in 2020 but has been revived only now so that attendants and patients do not have to go searching for oxygen.

The rising Covid cases across the country has led to a severe shortage of oxygen in hospitals causing severe medical and healthcare crisis in the national capital. Hospitals have been sending out SOS messages to the government over low medical oxygen levels.

Indian courts have been monitoring the supply of oxygen to hospitals after noticing the hardship of the common people.

The last 24-hours saw India report its highest covid-19 tally with 4.14 lakh cases in a single day and over 3,900 deaths. Though the number of infections went up, the deaths declined.
