<strong>In a show of solidarity with the people of flood-ravaged Assam, the Tibetan spiritual leader Dalai Lama has vowed to make a donation towards relief of the affected.</strong></p>
<p>
Describing it &ldquo;as a mark of solidarity&rdquo; with the people, Dalai Lama in a letter to the State Chief Minister, Himanta B Sarma expressed concern about the unprecedented rainfall and flooding which had led to loss of lives, displacement of people and destruction of property.</p>
<p>
The Tibetan spiritual leader wrote: &ldquo;It is most unfortunate that the monsoon rains in Assam and other parts of India seem to wreak havoc year after year. I would like to express my sadness about the hardship caused to so many people in your state due to the recent floods. I offer my deep condolences to you, to the families who have lost loved ones, and to everyone affected by the flooding.&rdquo;</p>
<p>
Mentioning about contributing in the efforts to help the people, the leader wrote: &ldquo;As a mark of my solidarity with the people of Assam, I am making a donation from the Gaden Phodrang Trust of the Dalai Lama to support those efforts.&rdquo;</p>
<p>
He also appreciated the efforts of the agencies involved in rescue and relief operations.</p>
<p>
Among others who have contributed to the Assam Chief Minister&rsquo;s Relief Fund are Bollywood singer Sonu Nigam, music producer Bharat Bhushan, actor Arjun Kapoor and director Rohit Shetty.</p>
