An Indian couple was arrested as 45 pistols worth Rs 22.5 lakh were found in their baggage by customs officials at the Indira Gandhi International Airport in New Delhi.

The two arrested have been identified as Jagjit Singh and his wife Jaswinder Kaur who arrived in Delhi on a flight from Vietnam.

"Ballistics reports will confirm whether the guns are real or not… but, in a preliminary report, NSG (National Security Guard, the country's elite counter-terrorism unit) has confirmed that the guns are fully functional and can be used," ANI new agency cited a senior official as saying.

Both the accused have admitted that they had previously brought 25 pistols to India from Turkey.
