CPI (M) leader Sitaram Yechury’s son Ashish dies of Covid-19

<p>
Veteran CPI (M) leader Sitaram Yechury lost his 34-year-old son due to Covid-19 today morning. A journalist, Ashish, passed away at Gurgaon’s Medanta Hospital, where he was battling for two weeks with the infection.</p>

In a tweet message Yechury shared the sad news of demise of his son. "It is with great sadness that I have to inform that I lost my elder son, Ashish Yechury, to COVID-19 this morning. I want to thank all those who gave us hope and who treated him – doctors, nurses, frontline health workers, sanitation workers and innumerable others who stood by us,” wrote Yechury.</p>

Cutting across party lines, condolences poured in from leaders of political parties. Prime Minister Narendra Modi described Ashish’s death as “tragic and untimely”. In his tweet PM said: “Condolences to Shri Sitaram Yechury Ji and his family on the tragic and untimely demise of his son, Ashish. Om Shanti.:</p>

The Kerala Chief Minister, Pinarayi Vijayan, wrote on Twitter: "Dear Com. @SitaramYechury, our deepest condolences on the loss of Ashish. Our thoughts are with you and your family during this difficult time."0</p>

Shashi Tharoor, who was detected with Covid-19 yesterday said he was devastated while Derek O’Brien of Trinamool Congress and Omar Abdullah of National Conference expressed their condolences.</p>

Tamil Nadu politician and DMK chief MK Stalin said, "Deeply saddened and pained to hear about the loss of Ashish Yechury.  I offer my heartfelt condolences to Comrade @SitaramYechury, his family and friends at this difficult time."</p>

Ashish Yechury was working as an Assistant Editor at news and media critique platform Newslaundry having earlier worked with several other media organisations. Newslaundary in a tweet said: "We remember him as a warm, gentle and talented friend and colleague. Words fail us but we'd like to extend our deepest condolences to his loved ones in this hour of grief.”</p>
