A group of conmen posing as CBI officers raided the house of businessman in Kolkata and looted Rs 30 lakh in hard cash and jewellery worth several lakhs, police said.
According to the police complaint lodged by 60-year-old Suresh Wadhwa, who lives in the Bhowanipore area of the city, 7-8 men posing as CBI officers barged into his residence on Rupchand Mukherjee lane at around 8 am on Monday and started a so-called “raid”.
The men arrived in three vehicles with police stickers and forced their way into the house. Wadhwa asked them to show their identity cards but they just pushed him aside. All the men were tall and well-built and armed with lathis.
The businessman claimed that the men stole Rs 30 lakh in cash and jewellery worth several lakhs and told him that the “seizure list” would be sent to him later.
Kolkata Police suspect the role of insiders known to the Wadhwa family in the crime.
“We are questioning servants at the Wadhwa residence and those employed at their farm. The culprits had details of the Wadhwa household, where the cash and jewellery were kept,” a police officer said.
CCTV footage from the locality is also being studies to trace the three vehicles used in the crime.
